Character History: (Should Be As Long As Your Age)
The day I was born, it was cold and snowy, but my mother said it was beautiful. 'It was the day you were brought in to my life, my love. It was a beautiful day.' She said it to me on every birthday, I loved my mother so much. She wasn't dead, but I had to talk about her like she was, it was the only way.
My parents had five children in seven years, we were a large family. My siblings and I were all the best of friends, there were so many of us, we all got along so good. I grew up on Southern Tennessee, so I was a southern girl right down to my boots. My childhood was full of fishing, mudding, cooking with my Momma, and learning from my Daddy.
My baby sister Mari, is the most protected in the bunch. When she was when she was fourteen, making me twenty, she met a man who no one liked. Daniel was his name, and he was much older than Mari. I didn't know exactly how much older, until it was too late. He had attacked Mari, leaving her bloodied and battered. I had stopped him in time to save her virginity, it was just too bad I had to give my own life to do it.
Daniel stole what was left of my adolesence in one felt swoop. I was only twenty, still a virigin in my own respect. I was engaged to the most respectable man in town, Troy, he was twenty five at the time, and we were in love. It was so sad, watching him cry at my funeral. He held my mother and the two of them cried over my empty casket. I watched from the woods, the overcast day being enough to save me from the sunlight.
Daniel had taken me in exchange for my sisters safety. He had given me his 'gift', making me an eternal monster, destined to steal the lives of others until someone finally ended mine. I had given myself willingly to Daniel, not knowing what would become of me. I thought.. I don't know what I thought he would do. What I did know, was that it would save Mari and that was enough for me.
I moved to Massacre Harbor, soon after my funeral. I couldn't stay in that town, constantly having to hide from my family who thought I was dead. It was easier that way, I wouldn't have to tell them what I really was. I wouldn't have to see the look of disgust and horror on their faces.
Now, I live in a hotel in Massacre and I've spent the last ten years learning to be a nurse. Granted, I can only work on my own species, but its enough. I help people every day, even though most of them aren't that greatful. I remarkably, managed to keep my compassion and kindness after my change. I think it was God's way of telling me I did the right thing. I saved my baby sister, I traded me for her. It was a fair trade.
Role Play Sample: (Should be written as the character you are applying for, not taken from another site.)
I could feel the sun setting, it was like a knawing in the pit of my stomach. It was my alarm clock, time to get up Raycey, your free to roam the streets again. Every night, I waited. I waited for the sun to set, wishing I could see it again. I had spent my whole life playing in the sunshine and watching it set at night. Now, those days were only memories. I took a deep breath through my nose, smelling the jasmine and rain of the night sky. Massacre was beautiful at night, so it wasn't all bad.
I was already dressed and ready when I felt the last bit of sunlight fade below the horizon. I slipped on my soft, black leather jacket and stepped out my door in to the flourescent lit hallway. Living in a hotel wasn't ideal for me, but it wasn't all that bad either. Someone cleaned for me, made my bed, and they didn't ask questions. I had stayed in other towns, at other hotels, but this was the only one that didn't give me the third degree about only coming out at night.
The first place I had stayed in, after the change, had accused me of being a 'lady of the night,' prostitute if you must call it that. I had laughed at them all and that was the first time I'd used my voice to bespell. They had all stood there, smiling at me, looking at me with such admiration. It had completely freaked me out, but I'd gotten over it pretty quickly. The vampire side of me didn't feel bad about a lot of things. Another thing that wasn't so bad.
I walked down the stairs and passed the door man, waving as I went. He was nice and certainly cute, but human, and that was a no no for me. How could I date someone when all I wanted to do was suck him dry? It made for some very lonely nights. But, I wasn't the brooding vamp you see in movies. I had a life, friends and a career. I had things to focus on, other than the fact that I was two thousand miles from my only family and slept alone every night.
I slid in behind the wheel of my truck, a brand new chevy silverado, she was my baby. Turning over the engine, the custom exhaust roared to life and a slow smile came to my face. My truch reminded me of home, it was a good thing. Shifting in to gear I pulled out of the parking spot and on to main street. The clinic I worked at wasn't far, I could have walked it in no time, but I loved to get behind the wheel of a big truck.
The Cerulean Clinic catered only to the needs to vampires and wereanimals. It was fronted by a human owned company, but was run solely by non-humans. We could risk a human being eaten, bad for business. I pulled in to the driveway of the farm house with the small sign that read "Cerulean Clinic." I drove around to the back and killed the engine in my usual parking spot.
As I stepped out of the truck I hoped Analeigh was working. She was my best friend in Massacre, and a vampire to boot. I didn't have to hide anything from her and she didn't have to hide from me. It was nice to have someone in this town. I unlocked the door to the clinic and stepped inside. The air conditioning was cool, but it was kept that way on purpose. Something about the air conditioning masking the wereanimals inside. It was a smell thing.
I walked to the elevator and took it down to the actual clinic. We had to be under ground, because there were nights that not all of us made it out before sunset. Analeigh was standing at the nurses station talking to the receptionist, when I came up behind her. "Hey there, girl. Slow night?" My slow southern drawl played right in to the seduction in my voice. I couldn't help it, the awe came out on its own sometimes. Thank the lord it didn't work on Analeigh. Another perk of having her around, I didn't bespell her every five minutes.
